The Fountain
of Youth...
Most people reluctantly accept the fact
that their bodies will start to wear out
around the age of 60 years old, but
modern science is beginning to prove
what common sense has known all along:
exercise will keep you in great shape no
matter what your age.
Researchers are investigating whether
exercise, can indeed, influence aging in
the body. In particular, they are
looking at whether exercise lengthens
telomeres, the strands of DNA at the
tips of chromosomes. When telomeres get
too short, cells can no longer divide
and then become inactive, a process
associated with aging, cancer and a
higher risk of death.
In a study published in November in
Circulation, the medical journal of the
American Heart Association, German
researchers compared two groups of
professional athletes (32 of whom were
in their early 20s, and 25 who were
middle-aged) with two groups (26 young
and 21 middle-aged) who were healthy
non-smokers, but not regular exercisers.
The athletes had significantly less
erosion in telomeres than their more
sedentary counterparts. The study
concluded that physical activity has an
anti-aging effect at the cellular level,
suggesting exercise could prevent aging
of the cardiovascular system.
However, it’s important to differentiate
between the various types of exercise.
We aren’t talking about a casual stroll
around the block; my experience
indicates that exercise has to be
intense to provide intense results... “A
man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians 6:7)
Dr. David Nieman, of Appalachian State
University, says that during exercise,
two types of immune cells circulate more
freely in the blood, neutralizing
pathogens. Although the immune system
returns to normal within three hours,
the effect of the exercise is
cumulative, adding up over time to
reduce illness rates, he says. He
compares the process to "a cleaner who
comes in for an hour a day, so by the
end of a month, your house looks much
better."
I believe the answer to why the
telomeres are able to regenerate comes
from the growth hormone that is produced
from exercise, thanks to your pituitary
gland. If you aren’t familiar with
growth hormone, it’s the hormone that is
responsible for muscle growth, muscle
and soft tissue regeneration, as well
as, the being the hormone that gives the
command to burn fat as energy. In
addition, it also helps to keep skin
thick (and elastic) and even keeps bones
dense. Sound interesting?
Of course it sounds interesting! Growth
hormone is basically the same thing as
an internal steroid. So now the question
begs, “How do I get it??”
Well, you can get it two ways. You can
go to your doctor and buy a
pharmaceutical grade version that you
would inject into your body, or you can
make your own. If you decide to ask your
doctor to prescribe it for you, you
would be consuming a “foreign” substance
which includes a chance, however slight,
that your body will react negatively and
complications might occur. On the other
hand, you can easily and naturally make
your own causing no negative side
effects...
"Daniel Rudman, M.D., and his research
group at the Medical College of
Wisconsin, reported the results of their
study on the effects of growth hormone
administered to elderly males. Dr.
Rudman’s group showed that tiny amounts
of growth hormone injected just beneath
the skin of 61 to 81 year-old males
produced almost unbelievable results in
only six months: lean body mass
increased by 8.8 percent, body fat
decreased by 14.4 percent, bone density
increased in the lumbar spinal bones,
and skin thickness increased by 7.1
percent (thin, brittle skin is one of
the consequences of aging).
All these changes were a result of the
growth hormone increase—the subjects
didn’t change their diet or exercise.
After only six months’ therapy with
minuscule amounts of this extremely
potent substance the more youthful
changes these men exhibited were, in Dr.
Rudman’s words, “equivalent in magnitude
to the changes incurred during 10 to 20
years of [reverse] aging.”
That’s right, muscles got bigger by
almost 10%, body fat decreased by almost
15%, bone density in the lower back (an
area most 60-80 year old men are
accustomed to having issues with)
regenerated itself and skin got thicker
by almost 10%. And don’t forget, this
test wasn’t administered on 18 year
olds, these men were 60-80 years old!
This study goes to show that you can
indeed transform your body at any season
of life; age is not an excuse to let
yourself go. So stop looking to your
doctor or your medicine cabinet for
relief, the fountain of youth is waiting
inside your pituitary gland.
If you don’t have the will power, which
is completely OK, to start and stick
with your own intense exercise program,
hire someone that will! There are many
different options, from personal
training to group classes to help you
stay motivated. No matter where you
live, there is bound to be a
professional available to help you tune
your most important instrument.
If price is an issue, ask yourself, “How
expensive will the inevitable surgery,
rehabilitation or prescription drug be?”
I can promise you that the cumulative
effects of fighting a disease when you
already have it will be much more costly
than the investment in a
“pre-habilitation” training program.
