The Benefits
of Being Organized
The
simple things in life
Yesterday I walked in to find that my
wife had pulled all her clothes from her
side of the closet and was in the
process of refolding and reorganizing.
It’s amazing how infectious the feeling
of tidiness is. So, I decided to
reorganize my quarter as well. The 32
hours since have been bliss. I’ve
changed clothes three times today,
perhaps just for the chance to bask in
my new and organized closet. I feel like
my mind underwent a “defrag”.
My new closet speaks to me, rather it
sings to me, calling me in to have a
look at all my athletic gear, neatly
organized and ready for action. I know
it only shaves circa 28 seconds of my
morning routine, but 28 seconds more
peace when I’m used to scrambling around
for my day’s garb, feels like a pleasant
eternity.
I know I should be constantly organized
in my home and mind. My grandfather, a
WWII veteran, purple heart recipient and
survivor of the great depression, had a
spot for everything. His home was as
organized as a library, labeled sock and
underwear drawers and all. He always had
money in his pocket and owned his own
houses, business, boats, ATV’s and cars;
outright. So, he was a successful man. I
grew up noticing organization and
success go hand in hand
“Organization enhances creativity and
gives it the time and place to
grow…Organizing your space and putting
things in their proper place creates
calm, harmony and contentment in your
life.” - Dr. Shad Helmstetter, Life
Coach/Author
It’s true. I feel like 20 pounds has
been lifted off my shoulders. I am
definitely less jumpy and stressed. I
feel like I just had a beer. I’m relaxed
and peaceful. Could organizing my closet
really bring me this much peace in all
aspects of my life?
It has. I feel a sense of calm each time
I see my underwear neatly folded next to
all my monochromatic exercise shirts and
shorts.
